Jan 19 12 9:25 AM	Tags : None Remove this ad He's quoted saying he's not going to make anymore Star Wars films because of the backlash he got for the prequels. Well how about this, George? Hand the franchise to someone else. You can keep your name on it and make your money, and we could possibly get a MUCH better movie, with a script that sounds like it was written by an adult. "I truly...deeply...love you." (That came out of nowhere, Padme.) I nominate Christopher Nolan to do a new trilogy. I would love to see where he could take it.

Jan 19 12 2:23 PM	It just annoys me at how much potential the Star Wars universe has and it's all being squandered away by an old man who reached his peak 30 years ago. Let Bioware make a live action movie for crying out loud. KOTOR's story was great.

Jan 19 12 5:01 PM The Rogue	Havent read any of the SW books, but im sure the SW world would be a great platform for some great movies. But yeah, great that he has stepped down. There were way too many things in the prequels that make them nearly unwatchable for me. Variety is the spice of death ;-)

Jan 23 12 1:05 AM	As if the original trilogy was anything more than a B-movie script with B-movie acting (for the most part) and outstanding (for the time) special effects. Don't get me wrong, I hate some of the changes for the re-re-re-released versions of the original trilogy that "more accurately conveys" Lucas's "original vision" -- Jabba slithering around the Mos Eisley spaceport in A New Hope; Greedo firing first and somehow missing Han from 2 feet away; Vader's "No. . . NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!" in Return of the Jedi, to name a few -- but if Lucas wants to change things, then it's his right to do so. If the fans don't like it, then simply don't buy it. And what's with all the hatred for the prequels? IMO, both The Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith are good additions to the Star Wars series. Attack of the Clones was the only one I have trouble bringing myself to watch all the way through again. Apart from the pod racing scene and a comic relief character that fell flat on his face (literally and figuratively), The Phantom Menace was solid all the way through. Study shows fifty percent of Americans below average intelligence: Congress pledges $250 billion to help combat the disturbing problem.

Jan 23 12 4:51 PM	Remove this ad Revenge of the Sith had the most potential and got some really good acting out of Ian Mcdiarmid, but Hayden was just awful as Anakin. His delivery right before the big fight scene was just bad. On top of that, you gave your coolest enemy of the prequels (Darth Maul) two lines, and then killed him. Come on! I don't HATE the prequels. I just think they could've been so much better. EDIT: Bioware casts better actors than Lucas.

Jan 23 12 5:49 PM The Rogue	Hayden's delivery of lines. Sounds like he is reading from a book. Jar jar... Ugh!! Sidious vs Yoda was a stupid fight. Overall, the 3 movies had a childish feel, lacked the charisma of the original series. Variety is the spice of death ;-)

Excellent observations all around, Tu! This is where the other Star Wars thread belongs, too, actually. Not sure why the Mod gods haven't moved it already, but it's all good. Anyway, you stressed my sentiments exactly about the fans, as well as about the Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith. Attack of the Clones was solid, too, though. At least I thought so. Enough to say that it wasn't a complete waste of money anyway.

Feb 5 12 2:30 PM	I enjoyed Obi Wan Kenobi's bit in Attack of the Clones. The whole Padme/Anakin love story was a little hard to stomach (dialogue) - but all in all I enjoy all the Star Wars films. My fave and will always be my fave is A New Hope. It was the 1977 original and I was a kid wowed by it in the theater. Saw it at least 25 times that year. Love it still. I pledge allegiance, not thoughtless obedience. <--- bumper sticker I saw one day, thought it was cool.

Feb 17 12 4:55 PM	Ok. I'll horn in on a few things. 1. The Prequel hate needs to stop. Why? Because its over with. There's no way in hell we could have expected EP1-3 to live up to our imaginations (and some fairly good EU writers imaginations as well.... coughBoba Fettcough). What, you didn't think 16 years between the classic trilogy which a LOT of people grew up watching and revering would bring another instant classic? EP1 was released in 1999, to a LOT of hate. And it just keeps rolling on, almost 13 years later. LET IT GO. I didn't like the movie when compared to the previous trilogy as far as story, direction and even the space scenes, but the lightsaber fight scenes were 20x better in the new ones. 2. George Lucas needs to get his credit for making ILM and thus GOOD movie special effects possible. Without him, we might have less enjoyable movies. He's also made more money than I'll ever touch, has had numerous successes with his re-releases despite the haters, and still manages to not really care what people say about him.... until now. 3. I know earlier I almost got onto Lucas about changing Fett.... but then I remember its his universe. He created it, molded it, shaped it and its his to do with what he will. If a local restaurant owner burns down the restaurant we all love so very much because he can't stand the sight of it anymore, well... psycho yes but its his prerogative. Either way I feel about the prequels being less than stellar compared to my childhood favorite movies (along with the Muppets movies before Jim died, Labyrinth and Legend and the f'n Goonies), they weren't as bad as some of the books I've read. Go ahead, try reading any of the books released directly after Zahn's masterpieces were written... Some are awful.... Darksaber is one I can think of off-hand. I do however refuse to watch Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, mostly because I hate Shia LeBouf and I couldn't stand to see Harrison Ford in that role again at his age. If he were to do it as a cameo thats one thing but to paraphrase Danny Glover... He's too old for this crap. George, Steven.... you should know better. BAD!! Back on subject.... People hating George Lucas won't make the Prequels go away, won't stop him from re-releasing movies with digital edits til he dies (I seriously doubt he's retiring.... there's another format wars coming, he's gotta re-release his movies one more time... for the winning format...). People need to remember who he is and what he's done for this film industry, not what he's done to Star Wars... Personally, while I would have loved to read more Tolkein books, I'm a little happy that JRR Tolkein died before finishing his works. A lot of the reading past the trilogy was dry and tough to swallow (kinda like that beef jerky I keep buying at the store, even tho its tough its got some good taste to it). I don't ever want to wish anyone's death or anything but I think perhaps Star Wars might have been better off unfinished. Imagination is more powerful than anything else and people let theirs sail away for years before Phantom Menace came out. Too bad George's imagination seemed to come from marketing focus groups and metrics rather than real creativity, but I won't begrudge him for trying. I don't think I could have done better than George, and it would be bad form to suggest I could. Look, not everybody can make hits all the time. There's only one King of Pop... oh wait wrong subject... There's only one Bob Salvatore..... ok shameless fanboyism aside.... Not everyone can write a script and direct it as well. Anyway I think I'm deviating a lot now so I'll post and leave it at that because despite my first subject note, I am starting to feel little criticisms toward George pop out here and there and I don't wanna do that anymore. Feb 19 12 10:52 AM E. Lo	lol Once again, well said, Amar. However, I think I should've been the one to leave well enough alone regarding all the Lucasfilm haters. I took it offensively that anyone would go so far as to slam their fellow fans who actually liked the prequels as opposed to the originals. But in retrospect (hindsight is 20/20, after all), everyone has a right to express their feelings, whether good or bad. They're the ones who spent their money -- or their parents' money, in some cases -- just like we did. I agree, though, that at some point you just have to let stuff go. Cut your losses and move on. Not everything in life is going to be to your utmost satisfaction, and I think it's very unrealistic to expect them to be.
