So you want the books that started the time jump? Or books that take place during it? Nothing really "explains" the jump or really delves that deep into what all happened. There wasn't any novels that really "tied-up" loose ends, but it may help to know what loose ends your are talking about. I can name a bunch that kind of deal with the Spellplague, Mystra's death, the aboleth's arrival, the state of Thay, Sembia, Waterdeep, and the Moonsea region. But there really isn't any "must reads", or at least I wouldn't call them that. Well, aside from Paul S. Kemp's works... but that's because they are that good.

The only thing I can think of that "kicked off" the jump was Thomas M. Reid's The Empyrean Odyssey, which deals with the death of Mystra, or at least shows it. That's really the main purpose of the series, but it doesn't really go much deeper than that.

But then again, I don't really see connections between the editions and the novels, or the point of a connection. But that's a rant for another day.
