Rotor asked us what we think, and my thoughts tend to be based on facts first, rather than feelings/opinions.

I don't think that it's the sex/gender or sexuality of parents that helps or hinders children. It's the education and training that a parent provides, which either helps or hinders. The particular genitalia or hormones someone's folks have--and what they do with 'em--doesn't make or break a kid!

(That reminds me of a question a philosophy prof asked back in college: What exactly does it mean to say that God is a "He", or that He is our Heavenly Father? Does God have male genitalia, hormones, body hair, muscles, etc., and does he think about having sex every 16 seconds? If not, then what's the point of viewing God as having a specific gender, at all?)

Ideally, kids should be raised with a combination of strictness and mercy, challenge and encouragement, etc. The traditional emphasis on heterosexual unions is based on that idea of combinations of differing values, or differing ends of a continuum of values. But that traditional view is very simplistic. It assumes that one has to have parents of different gender in order to have parents advocating different values or flavors thereof, and that parents of the same gender would advocate the same values or flavors thereof. However, clearly that's stupid. Men are not all alike, and women are not all alike, and they don't all have the same values. Heck, a given person doesn't always have the same values--regardless of his partner!

Traditional views worked in a far simpler time in human history. But some of us are capable of thinking on a little more abstract, complex level these days.

It comes down to the individuals involved, and their actual track record. I hate predicting and prognosticating based on anything else.
