Umm, what?

To be honest, I have no idea what you are talking about. Unless you are mixing in the novels he co-wrote with Janny Wurts, the novels don't really deviate from Midkemia.

* These books are based off a set of video games released by Sierra. After problems with the publisher, Feist was unable to complete the series and thus the books are cut off short, yet hinted at in books further along in the series. Perhaps it is to entice us to want to read books that will never see the light of day--more likely it is Feist disregarding the fact that we have never read them.

** I think the titles of the series tell the tale here. I haven't read them, nor will I. I tried to read Flight of the Night Hawks, but that came to a screeching halt before I even made it out of the prologue. The Conclave of Shadows that comes before it, especially King of Foxes, is just poorly written tripe that made me lose any interest in forthcoming novels or those I have read in the past. Yes, King of Foxes is that bad.

Of these, the latter part of Magician takes place primarily on Kelewan, which is the homeworld of the Tsurani and the Great Ones. Since this is the absolute beginning of the series, it can't be there. From what I remember neither Silverthorn or A Darkness at Sethanon take place on Kelewan or the other continent of Midkemia. None of the three that follow it, though written much later, leave Midkemia. Prince of the Blood makes an excursion to the southern portion of the primary continent and The King's Buccaneer discovers Midkemia's previously unknown second continent. The Serpent War takes place on the primay continent, the secondary content, and brief parts (very brief) take place in The Hall of Worlds and on another doomed planet. After that it really doesn't matter because the only point of reading the novels is for self-punishment.

He did a series that takes place on Kelewan that he cowrote with Janny Wurts, which are pretty much considered the best thing ever--it is assumed that Janny did most of the work. I haven't read them, but I think this is what you may be referring to. If so, then those books were indeed published after the completion of the first Rift War.

The First Rift War ended with A Darkness at Sethanon, both Prince of the Blood and The King's Buccaneer takes place many years after that book and form their own duology (Krondor's Sons). Similarly, the Empire series he coauthored with Janny Wurts, which that oddly refers to as "world on the other side", was not written (or rather published) until after the release of A Darkness at Sethanon. It takes place during the events of the first riftwar, but acts as a completely different series. Daughter of the Empire was not published until 1987, a year after the release of A Darkness at Sethanon (1986). The order you see there is not the published order, but the Chronological order, which does not necessarily mean that the books should be read in that order (they also left off the distinctions between series). They are referring to all of the books as riftwar, which is accurate in a way, but quite broad. There is more than one riftwar and they should really distinguish things.

And I see now. Crydee.com is about the most useless of "Official Sites" you can come by. They do have a better listing though, its just the last one mentioned.
