I just ordered the first book in The Twilight War by Paul S. Kemp, Shadowbred. I just got finished with the prolouge and Erevis Cale is in it. I've heard
of books with Erevis Cale in them before, but I haven't read any of them. Do I need to read any others before I read Shadowbred?

I suggest reading at least the Cale short story in Sembia Gateway to the Realms: The Halls of Stormweather book 1. That particular book is a series
of short stories, each one focuses on a family member that Cale works for. It will give you a background history and a bit more in depth look at each family
member. Read at least the one about Cale.

Oh darn, you beat me to it IZDemon!
Yeah just do EXACTLY what he said. And yes, the short story and Shadow's Witness are good. But the Erevis Cale Trilogy puts them to shame. The only thing I did when I read them was that I did the Erevis Cale trilogy first and the short story and Shadow's Witness later. If you don't want to read those two, I don't think that they are really need to understand the plot of the trilogy. |

Mr. Kemp has become one of my favorite authors and I think the character Erevis Cale is awesome. You can find more information about Mr. Kemp and his books
here. http://www.paulskemp.com/
I'd like to make a note about Sembia Gateway to the Realms: The Halls of Stormweather book 1. Some of the short stories are a bit slow and boring. It will be great if you can choke through them all just to give you more background on all the characters involved but by no means are they neccessary to read and only the Cale short story was written by Mr. Kemp. As Travizzt said, you can probably jump right past the first two books and get right into The Erevis Cale Trilogy but I think it would be more satisfying to read the first two books that lead up to The Erevis Cale Trilogy. |
