Magic items list was pretty small, but it was noted that Jarlaxle carried innumerable magic items for every occasion, and left it open for the DM to add as they saw fit.
Dexterity was like 28...i forgot what his Charisma was.
They had a pretty nice write-up about him and how he always manages to survive, how he is charismatic even in combat, though he is cruel and ...toward his opponents.
They also mentioned he is the leader of Bregan D'aerthe, though Kimmuriel is currently holding the position and does so during Jarlaxle's frequent and lengthy departures.

I don't remember the whole thing...I didn't buy the book. The only interesting part was on Jarlaxle. I'm sure I'll break down and buy it though.

On a side note, I definitely think Jarlaxle could have been better created using 3.5 edition rules. There were more classes, they more well defined (as opposed to wide open), and there was more magic/magic weapons. 3.5 seemed to fit the books better than the current system. For example, Jarlaxle uses his dagger as a throwing dagger. In 4.0 I don't think they have "returning" weapons, so his is just magical. They also have him fighting with 1 dagger and 1 longsword, instead of 2 daggers that grow into longswords so he can swashbuckle with two longswords.

In 4E, any thrown weapon that is magical automatically has the returning property :)

You're absolutely right. I completely missed that part in the PHB.

Man, I really need to read up on 4th ed rules. I don't even play anymore, but I really love the D&D world and gameplay mechanics. I'm curious how I'd feel about those stats of Jarlaxle if I knew the rules. I remember thinking Artemis and Drizzt weren't given proper gameplay stats back in 3rd ed. They were okay, but certainly didn't have the stats that back up their deeds. Jar's stats listed looks a bit underwhelming at first glance, specifically all those dexterity-required skills like stealth, acrobatics, etc. I remember having characters with less magical items with much higher stats than that at a much lower level.

Nowhere near the same system when it comes to skills. What Jarlaxle has is pretty high.

The rules are as follows: If you are trained in something you get a +5 bonus. Otherwise, it is your ability bonus + 1/2 your level. Some items add a bonus to various skills as well.

So, for example with his level at 21, his bonus to a dexterity based skill would be +19...1/2 his level + 9 for his ability modifier (28 Dex). If he is trained that is 24...plus any magic item bonus.
