I am about Half way through the TWO SWORDS, and i was just wondering and its Probably a Stupid Question. Other Orcs seem to be under the assumtion that Obould is indeed the Orc God, however, King Obould seems to be himself with higher intelligence, strength, skill etc.

Obould Never actually told them that he wasn't Grumish.

So how exatcly does this work?

Im sure BEAST, or Sargari, Sargai,Sargrai Sargull, Es Sargo, or Lae will know this.

I'm sorry that I don't know the exact details. I'm not religious in real life, and I tend to kinda skim over the religious aspects of the stories as well.

But here's my take: "Obould is Gruumsh" is just religious oversimplified hyperbole. It means that Obould represents Gruumsh, or that Obould is personally and directly approved, blessed, and looked over by Gruumsh.

For simple folk, or for the sake of conversational simplicity, or even thematic imagery, one might be tempted to say that a mortal is simultaneously a god. I can think of at least one real world religion that takes that approach, too . . .

But I do not think that there was ever any indication that Obould truly was Gruumsh. He was simply gifted by the orcan god.

The Orc King confirms that this was the case, at least for a time.

But RAS has more recently shared this with us:

RAS: I don't know, honestly, if Obould is "still" a chosen. He was, hence the power upgrade, but obviously his vision isn't what one would expect. Unless, of course, Gruumsh sees that Obould inroads will lead to a great victory later on…

So Obould was blessed, and even so much as a "chosen", at least for a time.

But it remains to be seen how his latest actions will affect his relationship with his god in the future . . .

At any rate, the fact that he has occasionally doubted himself and consulted with others to help make decisions would seem to demonstrate that he has always been just a mortal, and never the god.
