Casting calls, tech/sfx ideas, where to film, cgi vs live action, etc etc etc ** This thread is for ON TOPIC discussion. If you don't have something positive to add to the discussion of this particular topic, why reply? We've all seen numerous threads of this nature. We know they will still pop up. Just like chronological order threads. However, even if 1 pops up per week, who is to say that without it, there wouldn't have been 2 or 3. ** ~ Let me understand. Anyway, referring to this topic... I think we should get the guy from blade to play Jarlaxle's character. That's all I can come up with so far. As far as what books or whatnot should be made into a movie, that's up in the air. They all should be! MUAHAAHA!

Jun 6 05 1:16 PM	Guy from Blade is Welsey Snipes - I'd say he'd be better as Drizzt, who is after all, supposed to be dark skinned. Bruenor - John Rhys-Davies, played Gimli in Lord of the Rings Catti-Brie - Liv Tyler (more Lord of the Rings but she was good!) Regis - Tough one this - not sure but one of the younger actors who looks childish still Wulfgar - You need an Arnold Schwarzenegger type character Whoever directs it could certainly take some lessons from Peter Jackson. The other thing is, what book would you do, or what series? Peter Jackson has shown that a mixture of CGI and real life action works well. The other thing is - what language would you do it in? American? English? Or a mixture - it's interesting to wonder what accent Drizzt would have, and also Catti-brie with her Dwarven roots. So many permutations, I can understand why Bob doesn't really want to go into the subject, but I'd like to hear some of his thoughts on the other issues (like language).

Hell lets just have everone from LOTR be in the movies. Drizzt-Orlando Bloom Cattie-brie-Liv Talor Bruenor- guy who played Gimli Regis-guy who played Sam Wulfgar-guy who played Gandalf Guen-guy who played Merry in a panther suit Artemis-guy who played Strider Jaraxle-person who played Bromir (how ever you spell his name) AND lets start calling all the Halflings in Toril hobbits!!! How FUN!!!! sarcasticaly Also American is not a language.

Jun 7 05 12:58 PM	Geez calm down :) I'm just pointing out that the actors who played the guys in LOTR were very suited to their roles, I think you'll find Wesley Snipes wasn't in it ;) Actually I believe I only mentioned two actors from LOTR and John Rhys-Davies played the perfect dwarf. By American I meant American accents as opposed to English (I am English hence my reference). Yes LOTR is not related to the Drizzt books but if you use a little imagination the scenarios are similar as are some of the characters - Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits (Halflings?), Wizards, Orcs. The problem with a Drizzt film is that it will in some ways be compared to LOTR (possibly why Bob isn't interested?) although we all know the storyline is completely different, there are plenty of people who do not. I think a trilogy would need to be made, as a one off would seem somewhat strange. I would also draw comparisons with Blade (half vampire shuns other vampires for their evil and is cast out, normal people shun him, vampires hunting him down). Like I said, use a little imagination...

Jun 7 05 3:23 PM	Hi, new here, big fan of RA since crystal shard wayback, never missed a book of his. Anyway for me i gotta go with guys i know are formally trained i martial arts or with actors prepared to do 6-8 months minimum of hard graft to look half decent with a blade. As far as i concerned i just can't imagine any actors playing Drizzt or my favourite Artemis. but i can say what styles of martial art best complements them so here goes: Drizzt:- Wu shu- double broadswords nice, fast, acrobatic and most importantly flowing and graceful. Artemis:- traditional fencing with sabre/dirk crossed with Wu shu chen sword. This would create a cool rapid thrusting aggressive attacks complemented with cool rolling and ducking body/sword movements.

Average people would say, hey what's Gimli doing in this move? He's Tolkiens character. That's why anyone who was in LotR should NOT be in any Drizzt film. On the Wesley Snipes thing, he would never fly as Drizzt. Just ecause he has black skin doesn't mean anything, make-up and CGI can give him pink skin if you want. Snipes is to 'buff' to play Drizzt who is supposed to be an Elf therefore slim. .

Those of middle earth are supposed to be formed of fallen elves, while those of Toril are a naturally occurring race.

Jun 10 05 7:26 AM	Wesley Snipes is a bad call i think! Just because he used a modified ninja-to sword in the blade films it doesn't make him a good candidate for the role of Zak. Elves are supposed to be slight and compact, it just wouldn't look right. Tony Ja (In Ong Bak) Jet Lei, Tony leung (house of flying daggers) These guys would fit the shape, size, build, and movements of elves. Plus they re all classically trained martial artists so the fight scenes would look realistic and not some 'matrix' stylised rubbish.

Jun 10 05 5:25 PM	This topic has nearly been beaten to death with a stick. And if you dig into the archives you'll see many other topics about this. But, the way I see it, these books would never be turned into movies. Don't get me wrong I love the books, but the stories are not epic enough for anyone to care about, other than fans. The movie would seem pointless and dull to an audience. Except for the action, the audience would enjoy the action of a Drizzt movie.

Jun 11 05 1:07 PM Tyler Durden Lives	Since when could no one have their own ideas. Get off Dinin's back on using LOTR actors. It's his ideas for a cast, so let it be. If (I should say when) a studio ever picks up Drizzt to be made into a movie, it's not like they'll be coming to any of us to choose the cast, unless they have a public vote, like how Bale got the role for Batman, where we do actually get a say in who plays who. But for now, it strictly remains fantasy, so if Dinin wants LOTR actors, Dinin can have LOTR actors. And just because Blade is a grumpy badass doesn't mean that Wesley can't play cool-headed sympathetic characters like Drizzt. He can act, he's still got youth left in him, and he knows how to kick butt. Jun 17 05 11:56 AM	well, salvatore has said that he got started writing after reading LOTR, and it was a big insparation. so it only fits that he got a lot of ideas from those books. but i do hate it when people suggest using LOTR people for drizzt char. and also people think using johnny depp as jarlaxl, only because of how he acted in pirates of the carribean.again bad idea. i do say heath ledger (if he bulked up a ton) would be a good wulfgar. but it should be new faces for most of the cast

I agree with the poster who said this wouldnt fly on the big screen as it wouldnt have as huge a following as LOTR does. However it might do well as say a weekly 1 hour episode on something like HBO. 1st season would be Drizzt escaping the city and finding the outside world. 2nd season in icewind dale. 3rd season finding Mithril hall...and so on. It might gain a huge following by those people who dont read. Just my 2 cents

Jun 17 05 1:33 PM	Woo thanks Shaitan! :) As I did say, I'm nto sure any of the LOTR actors would be right for the Drizzt role, however the type of characters they played give an idea of what I would expect in any Drizzt movie. However I think films like The Matrix have shown that given time, people can learn alot of skills (although I think finding a good actor who can successfully dual wield would be hard!). What I do wonder though (probably the same as some of the thoughts Bob has had) is how many people would watch the movie? I'm not sure how many worldwide sales the Drizzt books get, but a movie house will only make the movie if they know they could make a profit, and a Drizzt movie would have a big budget. I know we'd all hanker after a Drizzt film, I'm just not sure whether there would be wider appeal after something like LOTR. I'm sure after a trailer some people would be converted though :) But hey we can dream and name our cast anyway! Oh and to the above post, I hope someone would remember the European fans, we don't have HBO! :)

What if instead of making the Drow completely black they were this skin color: Add to that, they're never called Dark Elves, they'd simply be called Drow. Drizzt/ I really can't think of anyone, maybe a no-name... someone who kinda looks like (don't kill me :S) Tom Cruise from when he was in Legend but with an older attitude Artemis/ Julian McMahon (the upcoming Doctor Doom) Cattie-Brie/ Keira Knightly (shes cute and she's got spunk) Wulfgar/ a younger Vladmir Kulich (ever since seeing 13th warrior I keep seeing him as Wulfgar) Bruenor/ another one I can't think of, probably a no-name, but someone who can be both gruff, and caring and make that work Regis/ A young Cork Hubbert (also from Legend, he played Brown tom, but look him up on google n check out the b/w pic if it comes up) Jarlaxle/ Richard O'Brien (take him from how he looked in that crap D&D movie with a lighthearted attitude and dark makeup that would hide his age...don't forget the wide brim hat w/ plume ; He played Xilus) Cadderly/ Kris Kristofferson (hehe I just like imagining him as Cadderly talkin smack to a Demon :P) As for a director lets just go ahead and sign up peter Jackson, but force him into a D&D mindset, no more invisible spells....Dominate person anyone?
