Apr 2 06 2:06 AM	Alright ... well ... now that the original point of the original post that I made when I started this thread has been butchered beyond all recognition, I will make my final statement. While Laethyn and Beezer and Marge and their ilk debate my (or anyone else's) seeming inability to follow simple rules ... while these people divert the debate farther and farther away from what I originally wanted to discuss, largely to puff up their already over inflated egos...the question still remains. What gives you the right to edit another person's words when you could more easily, and more legitimately, simply delete the post entirely? I have made this point repeatedly ... at least up until certain people's arrogant attitudes caused me to lose my temper. Furthermore, as has been pointed out, I didn't attack anybody and I didn't "call out the mods." I described what I saw and I asked a question; I presented the description and the question to the board for comments and debate. I would ask all interested parties to go back to the beginning of the thread and read it over one more time, and tell me who got all high-handed and self-righteous first. At any rate, I'm out. I refuse to continue on here in this absurd little cotten-candy world that you have created. I will not post on a forum where the mods and administrators can edit and revise posts without any restraint ... when they ought in fact to simply delete them and let the post's author make the edits and revisions to comply with whatever board standards are currently in effect. Depending on the personality of whatever Napolean is currently in charge. On the PLUS side, that actually comes as good news to many of you. ;) Take care.

But getting back to the original question you put forth, I stand by my response. If people obeyed the rules and re-read their posts before clicking on the "add reply" button, editing out any inappropriate content BEFORE posting, the mods/admins would never have to decide whether it is better to edit or delete...there would be no need. And everyone's posts would say exactly what the poster meant them to say. It is really a non-issue for those people who have the self discipline and restraint to edit themselves before their posts become problematic. And I truly believe that 99% of the people posting on this forum are intelligent enough to express themselves eloquently without resorting to profanity and hurtful name-calling...IF they choose to. Okay, so that is a bit of an overblown example, but the premise is the same.

A circular saw hanging from the workplace is a hazard. An employee should expect the company to provide a safe workplace. Here, on the boards, it is a matter of personal accountability. It is so easy to just use profanity to get you point across and then blame the mods/admins if they edit or delete the post. If someone wants to post on this forum, then he/she should take the care necessary to avoid situations where the mods/admins need to take any action. It really isn't that difficult to check your message before posting it and edit it yourself. You keep the intent, and the mods/admins keep their hands off your words. If someone is unable (doubtful) or unwilling to police their own words, they should not get upset if the mods change them OR delete them. And you know as well as I do, if a post gets edited, the author of it will cry "You should have deleted it!" and if it is deleted, the poster will cry "Why was my post deleted? I'll never be able to reconstruct everything I said!" It's a no-win situation for the mods/admins, and it's just another excuse for some people to engage in mod/admin bashing. If a person's words are so precious to him/her that having someone else change them is traumatic, then that person should take every precaution to assure no one has any reason to change those words. If someone goes out and steal an item from someone should we be able to punish him by cutting his hands off? All he had to do is not steal anything. It was 100% his fault he stole it so are we now free to do anything to him? The point is when people break rules there are things that should be allowed done and things that should not be allowed done. The rules them-selves never had anything to do with the thread. This is why when people makes laws they also make what are the appropriate actions they can take when the law is broken. They dont say if someone breaks this law we can do anything to him.

And I have seen some messageboards run with such an iron fist that one infraction, and the user is banned for x amount of time. As marge said, it all comes down to self-editing. I'd prefer to never, EVER have to edit/delete a post (not including the typical "muscle pill", "viagra", etc. threads). It's extra work. And I'm lazy. But, until people can learn to type without cursing, which realy shouldn't be that difficult, removal of certain words will continue. That said, changing a curse word to another, more mundane, word, was begun long ago when a number of people complained that just removing the word made posts unreadable, so there was a thread (and we are going back 2 years or so), that people requested a word edit, not just removal. But! if everyone's feelings have changed, then the method in which we (Beezer, pech and I) handle such things will change also. ~ Let me understand. Everything I said after that was about how you approached this thread and I said in a previous post I would drop that subject and I will keep my word. My final post was to mmcutter to point out the purpose of this thread is not to debate the rules but whether admin had the right to change the meaning of posts and why admins should not have that right. Since you said you dont change meaning you should have nothing against me saying you should not change meaning of posts.

Question: Why dont the Admins or Mods just delete a post instead of editing it. Answer: Because said Admins or Mod do not want to take away from the thread any good thoughts or points that might have been made.
