Should I read the Dark Elf Trilogy or the Icewind Dale Trilogy first?

It depends... do you want to read chonologically or the order they were published?
If you want Chrono, then Dark Elf trilogy. If the order they were published then Icewind Dale. Personally, I started with the Dark Elf trilogy and am very pleased I did. To me it just makes more sense to do it that way. Mainly because you can start from the beginning of the character. You will most likely get a 50% for each answer to this question from all those here. In the end it really boils down to what you want to do. |

Go for the Dark Elf Trilogy. Makes more sense.

I started with Icewind Dale because I looked the books up based on release dates, and I thought The Dark Elf Trilogy was a sequel. But I went back and read DET
after ID, and didn't have too big of a problem. You don't really NEED to read DET to understand the character of Drizzt, but it's much more
satisfying if you do.

Icewind Dale.
For every winner there are a hundred losers. Odds are, you're one of them.

The Dark Elf Trilogy. If only because it consists of the strongest of the novels in the Legend of Drizzt series.
"At least."

you hustle!
Sargai: Yes,

I did no such thing. Indeed, it was expected.

She only said that to contradict my answer I certainly did not! I think TID trilogy should be read first because it was written first and the characters' development starts there, not in TDE trilogy.....although contradicting you and Ave is always fun. :) "One can always be kind to people about whom one cares nothing."
