Okay, back for page 16….hey guys and gals, PLEASE let me catch up. I'm on crunch time now, with conventions, e-signings and tours coming up and on the stretch run to finish a book that I need to get done. I hate not being able to answer - I don't want anyone to feel "left out" or anything like that.

So please let me catch up.

IAmGuen: Hey, I like the name! Yeah, like Laethyn suggested, feel free to start threads in the Works and General areas. Welcome, and don't worry, this forum is usually messed up. That's the fun, after all.

Zacknafein: A word of warning: if you take anything Sargai says at face value, your head will explode. (Psst and shhh! It's because he hates Entreri, so Entreri is offered a reward for his cybernetic demise, thus opening the position of President in the Entreri fan club, currently held by Sargai….it's all very complicated.)

Jonathan: Many things happen off-screen, after all. I don't remember the specific scene to which you are referring, but if it's the Harpells, then they probably know more than you think and think less than you know. I hope you're enjoying Paul's work - he's quite the writer, IMO! And you can expect to see Entreri again, but it will be in a book by me.

HELM: A Montolio story? That would work, though it might look a lot like my stories about Uncle Mather from DemonWars!

Traycor: Yep, as Sargai showed, that's "Wubba wubba." I wonder if I'll get asked to tell it (yet) again at GenCon.

The Jeweled Dagger: Many times, I position my characters to either get them out of the way of designers/other authors, or just because I like a place. I've had an affinity for the Bloodstone Lands since I read the Doug Niles' modules 20 years ago! Since Jarlaxle and Entreri were wandering aimlessly, and can move quite swiftly, I seized the opportunity!

You answered your own question. People like ZAk because of the mystery, which presents more than a bit of a challenge if and when I do go back and explore more of his younger days.

Entreri clearly amuses Jarlaxle - heck, Jarlaxle really likes the guy, and it's just that understated bravado, that quiet confidence backed up by ability, that endears him so.

DavisForman: I purposely kept much of Drizzt and others out of WotSQ, since I wasn't writing it. And yes, working with six different authors on the project was tough, more for them than for the editors. But this was their work, not mine, and I didn't want my work to be either a crutch or a burden, as they didn't need either!

Two things: first, fiction writing is PLAN B, not PLAN A! very few people are lucky enough to make a living at this difficult field. Go to college and create a PLAN A for yourself, one that will allow you to support yourself. Take literature courses and keep at your writing craft as you can (and becoming better at writing will help you in whatever field you choose). And finally, don't' worry about plagiarizing unless you actually ARE plagiarizing, with intent. I had a great idea for a novel. I bounced it by my son, who asked if I had seen a certain movie. I hadn't. When I watched it, I nearly died, for there was my idea, presented horribly and backwards, but there nonetheless. Oh, and even the freaking dog in the movie had the same name - I kid you not! And it was the name of my oldest dog!

And no, I won't tell you the name of the movie or the dog.

Aulduron: Actually, I heard that someone might be doing just that. Don't have any details, though. And yes, I love those dwarves!

Laethyn: No. How-to books bore the tar out of me.

Xelbon: It doesn't, as I haven't read it. I'm just doing what I do and if they tell me I have to do something different, then I'll argue and they'll argue and I'll win. I hope. Honestly, I was shocked when I heard that someone else was working on the new drow.

Xelbon and Aulduron: I'll just whistle past this part of the conversation.

noonecantopDrizzt: Nice name! Okay, so is this Curt Schilling? Just kidding - he's a centaur fanatic. I wanted to keep them rare and special in DemonWars, a bit of a mystery race. They are pretty cool, I admit, but I wonder how much of that coolness has to do with the mystery around them. Oh, and I'm NOT in competition with other authors!

Sneak: I expect we'll see more of Entreri, yes, but whether it's his past or future, I don't yet know. My favorite book? Overall, Mortalis from DemonWars, hands down. Second would be Homeland.

Smooth: Always a chance, and since Diane loves Brynn, probably more of a chance.

Arrevanthas: Hmm….in about 2 months, yeah. Err....maybe.

Lyrithiel: Not much time at all, and Catti's injuries seem to have left a permanent scar and limp, which no doubt contributed to her decision to take Alustriel up on the offer. And yes, I consider them married, though I haven't shown any formal ceremony. Not sure yet if I will. Oh, and the beauty of reading books is that you can be anyone or anything you want in them. And I do like the name.

Jonathan: Given all the strange twists and turns the books have led me through over the decades, I don't rule anything in or out.

Ehren05: Curiously, it was a rather negative review of The Ancient that put me on course for The Dame. I mean that; some blogger on the internet fretted about the last book, saying that while he liked it okay, he was wary of a pattern of "Drizztifying Bransen," and I realized that I was indeed walking that road. By that, I mean putting him with a group of adventuring fellows to begin the never-ending journey.

I have corrected that, and my thanks goes out to that perceptive amateur critic. And no, that's not an invitation to start slamming me!

Rotor: Great point, and sadly, I'd have to say that yes there would be a difference. The drow were harder, tougher, meaner (and I suppose I have to take some of the blame for unintentionally PC'izing them, oh well). Expect a Zak/Jarlaxle book to be rather - how shall I say it? - nasty.

Jonathan Wild: Yes, yes and most definitely yes! Being a writer has made me read like an editor, which really isn't a lot of fun. Ah well.

For one of my books? Homeland, I'd say, as it really did kick off a rather major evolution in the fantasy realm.

He'd confuse the grappler with faerie fire, blind him with darkness, and summon Guen in the globe where no one else could see. What makes you think he'd lose?
